Gamecity 2011. A small, yet fun place.

Watch out! There's a lot of text this time.

I went to an event called "Game City". It's an annual convention in Vienna and is open for 3 days.
There were enough interesting games in my opinion. Time to list all the games that I've played there.

Sonic Generations

I was completely amazed by it. It's really how I imagined it. The enviroment is so full of details (in a positve way) and filled with content.
I am going to split my review by the 2 categories now, because I feel like so.
Keep in mind that I've played the XBOX360 version and I have no idea which version this is.  It could be the newest demo or the very first demo release.

The "classic" gameplay
It's really wierd to explain this. It plays like a Sonic game, but it felt so different. First of all, if you don't know which moves "classic" Sonic has, then let me tell ya.
  • 2.5D
  • Spindash (with 2 options; Either the classic way with Down+Jump or holding the Spindash button)
  • No homming attack
The gameplay is...well. It's like playing the 2.5D sections of Sonic Colors. Most of the time I couldn't jump over a simple plattform, because of the physics. Funky gameplay aside, the "classic" gameplay is really recommended for those people, who played Sonic back in the 90s.

The "modern" gameplay
SONIC BOOM! SONIC BOOM! SAWWWNIKKKK BOOOOM!
"Modern" Sonic has the following moves:
  • 2.5D + 3D
  • Homing Attack
  • No double jump like in Sonic Colors
  • Occasional spin dash via dash pads(?)
  • Sonic Rush-esque combo system
  • That turbo move like in Sonic Rush (Super Boost, I think)
  • Light Dash(?) (I saw glowing rings)
  • Quick Step
  • and so on...
This "modern" Sonic is based on Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors. He pretty much plays like in those games, but I think they improved it a little bit. Oh man, it feels so fantastic, rushing through Green Hill Zone and City Escape with the new "modern" Sonic.

Unfortunately I couldn't hear the music, because of the crowd and the very low volume. But I bet, it is as spectacular as always.

If you enjoyed any Sonic game in the past or any platform games for that matter, then you should give Sonic Generations a try.

Kirby Wii

This game is on crack, especially if you're playing with little kids. Play either alone or with people, who are drunk. The gameplay is actually very good, but playing this with 4 people is really chaotic. You can play as Kirby himself, King Dedede, our fellow Waddle Dee and his blue headband and the other Star Warrior, Meta-Knight. It's like Kirby Superstar, but with a 4-player option and various new features. Do I have to mention that there are super weapons in this Kirby entry? Kirby can use gigantic swords, gigantic flames, gigantic ETC.!

Spider-Man: Edge of Time

It has been a while since my last Spider-Man game and I totally regret it. I should have played the "Shattered Dimensions" one on last year's Gamecity. Oh well.
From what I've played, you play as your friendly-neighborhood Spider-Man and a futuristic Spider-Man from...yeah, the future. The gameplay was pretty much what I've expected. But it felt so awesome swinging around and punching the crap out of enemies again.
Nevertheless it was a solid Spider-Man game and is worth the money. (Although it's from Activision...)

Street Fighter X Tekken

This was the best game on the convo (next to Sonic Generations) IMO.
Even though I watched every damn trailer and teaser, I actually forgot how to play the game as soon as I got there. I played it like vanilla Street Fighter 4. I forgot to use all the awesome stuff like cross counter, cross cancel, cross launcher(?) and other stuff. Heck, I even forgot how to switch characters. But I managed to get used to it after 5 rounds.
It's pretty much standard Street Fighter with a Tekken Tag Tournament.
If a character gets ko'ed, then the match is over. Regardless if the secondary character is still alive. There is also the Pandora boost, which sacrifies your character with 25% health. It will make your other character insanely powerful, but will die after a few seconds. It's really a last resort move.
A great fighting game, but I don't think Tekken players will like it, because of the fast-paced action.

I tried all the Tekken characters and I must say, they were fun to play. Especially Yoshimitsu and Lili. I wish, I knew their special moves, but they didn't put any moves list of some sort.
Overall, great game. I will get it for sure.
Oh, this was the roster for that demo (It's a random list with no sort)

SF side
Ryu
Ken
Chun-Li
Cammy
Poison
Hugo
Zangief
Rolento
Dhalsim
Guile
Ibuki
Abel
Sagat
Rufus

Tekken side
Heihachi
Kazuya
Hwoarang
Marduk
King
Lili
Nina
Kuma
Bob
Raven
Julia
Steve
Yoshimitsu

PS.: There were no gems in the demo. God damn, the fighting community are already flipping turds with this topic.

Super Mario 3D Land

Generic Mario game #1536
It's really bland. It's Super Mario Galaxy + New Super Mario Brothers with a bit of Super Mario Brothers 3. I don't know, I am normally really hyped for Mario games, but yeah. Time's changed. Plus, it's on the 3DS.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games

Now THAT'S a mouthful. It's your "normal" Mario & Sonic game. Nothing special. I only played the "Cloud Jumping: Dream Event" event and it was funny. I would play it on a party, but it depends on the events. It has soccer.
Also, you should check the OST out for this one. "M&S at the Olympic Winter Games" had an astonishing OST.

Some Kinect thingy

I'm sure there's a name but I can't recall it. It's that mobile phone game with cutting vegetables and fruits into slices only with Kinect.
Also...
Oh, let me reintroduce you. Rider meets horse, horse meets rider.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations

The demo version was a multiplayer thing. A "free-for-all" match with 8 people. They destroyed me, but that wasn't surprising. I can't say much there, because I'm not into AssasCreedRevel.

Some PlayStation Move thingy

Bunch of minigames. All of them has something to do with balls.

The Sims 3: Animal Edition

No comment. It's the Sims. What do you expect?

Little Big Planet Move

It was...
Can't remember. It must be really crap.

Forza Motorsport 4

Jesus Christ! I can't handle the realistic physics of this game! Nope, it's simply not for me. Give me something like Ridge Racer or Daytona USA or even Intial D for arcade.

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One

For someone who rarely played "Rachet and Clank" in his life, I must say that this game was actually fun. It's maybe one of many franchises that didn't get all mutilated. (For example: Banjo, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro;)

Worth checking out. I recommend you to play this with a friend or two or three.

Crash Bandicoot (On the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY)

Game aside, I think I will get that phone. I still have an N-Gage and I don't think it will last another 5 years.
It's PSPGo with a telephone.

So that's all the games I played.
Time for those I found, but didn't play.
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Uncharted 3
  • Skylanders: Spyro game
  • Rayman Origins
  • Dragon's Dogma
  • A SSX game
  • FIFA 2012
  • Modern Warfare 3
  • Battlefield 3
  • That Halo game
  • Gran Turismo 5
  • Skyrim
  • Some more Kinect blabla here and there
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Dunno why)
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Need for Speed: The Run
  • Various retro games like Diddy Kong Racing, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage, Pacman, etc.
  • ICO + Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection
And maybe some others.

By the way, nearly everyone played Just Dance 3 and something similar on the PS3. It was insane.

Games that should have been there IMO
  • Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition
  • Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3
  • Mortal Kombat 9
  • Soul Calibur 5
  • Dead Or Alive 5
  • King of Fighters 13
  • Super Smash Brothers Brawl (just because)
  • Any Wiiu demo (I would to see the controller in person)
  • Dead Rising 2: Off the Record
  • Anything Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Silent Hill-related if there are any.
  • Megaman Legends 3 (Yeah, yeah..... Let me dream)
tl?rt! version
I had a freaking radical time playing tons of demos, Kinect and PSMove is freaking useless and Street Fighter X Tekken and Sonic Generations are GOTYOAY! (Game of the Year of all Years!)
